Mowgli, Sean and Reza in the Folklore Foundry workshop
A wrap of the last shooting day with Sean from Folklore Foundry.

Two weeks ago I travelled together with Reza to another town in England to film the casting process of our Atlas Tailor’s Thimbles for our company, International School of Tailoring.

This trip made me realise the blessing of working together as a couple even more. Not only were we completing an exciting project, but we were doing it TOGETHER!

This gave a whole new meaning to our project.

The night before our departure, we had to make sure we had packed all the needed film equipment and gear. So we sat down with our list and went through it one by one to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything. While I started packing, Reza jumped into the kitchen and made a few delicious sandwiches for our journey. Remember those school trips where you packed more food than you were able to eat? Yes, that child in me came out when I saw a backpack filled with food! I could only appreciate the presence of my partner in preparation for the trip. The alternative would have been me coming home tired, spending double the time on packing the gear, and skipping the food prep to only buy a dull and way too expensive sandwich at the station.

Mowgli and Reza just arrived at the station in Newcastle-Under-Lyme
All geared up, we arrived in Newcastle-Under-Lyme on a snowy day.

The next morning, our alarm went off at 3:30. Tired but fired up, we jumped out of bed and were quickly ready to take on the day. While we were waiting in an empty station for the train to arrive, we had a cup of coffee and one of the prepared scones. We took our time and went over the plan for the shoot. During the 2.5-hour train journey, we not only fully hyped each other up by sketching the documentary’s vision, but also had the delicious sandwiches. Here again, I realised the luxury of having extra time to spend on work with the person you care about the most.

A full English Breakfast in a hotel
Inspired by Mr. Bean, we had our full English Breakfast at 7am in the morning in the hotel. We were the only ones there...

At the end of a long shooting day, we went to our hotel quite tired. Out of excitement, the first thing we did was to quickly glance through our footage of the day. We decided to have food in bed and end the night with the most British show one could watch in an English village: an episode of Mr. Bean packing his luggage for holiday with baked beans.

You guessed correctly; I would not have been able to enjoy such a night if I could not have shared this memory with my other half. Imagine this ending of a hard-working day: me lying there in bed alone with food crumbs all over me watching Mr. Bean! The thought of it alone makes me feel sad.

Of course, you would be less alone if you travelled with another colleague who’s not necessarily your partner. But the point I am making here is the chance of creating small but meaningful memories during work projects that you can only share as a couple. And this was certainly the case for us during this trip.
